His mother, Lucrecia Crescent, was injected with Jenova cells while pregnant with him, resulting in Sephiroth being a genetically altered human. After his birth, Lucrecia was separated from Sephiroth, and Hojo raised him to become a powerful SOLDIER, subjecting him to intense physical and mental training. Once a renowned SOLDIER First Class, he was considered a war hero and the pride of Shinra Electric Power Company. After discovering his origins as the product of genetic experimentation using cells from an alien being called Jenova, Sephiroth became insane and decided to take revenge on humanity and the planet. Sephiroth was unaware of his parentage, being told his mother was named Jenova, and never knowing Hojo was his father. Sephiroth came to detest Hojo, referring to him as "a walking mass of complexes" and seeing him as an inferior scientist to Gast. Sephiroth's goal is to wound the planet badly enough to absorb its Lifestream and become a god-like being, using meteor to create an enormous wound on the planet's surface. He believed himself to be the last Cetra, an ancient race, and came to despise humanity. In a fit of rage, he destroyed the town of Nibelheim and severely injured several people before being defeated and thrown into the Lifestream by Cloud Strife. Sephiroth survived in the Lifestream, eventually reassembling himself at the Northern Crater. He began manipulating others through the Jenova cells within them, using them as puppets for his plan to become a god by merging with the planet's Lifestream. He orchestrated various events, including summoning the Meteor to cause planetary destruction. Sephiroth was eventually confronted and defeated by Cloud and his companions at the Northern Crater, but his essence persisted. He avoided dissolution in the Lifestream by focusing on his hatred for Cloud, allowing him to influence the world and eventually manifest through his remnants during the events of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children." Despite being defeated again by Cloud, Sephiroth vowed to never be forgotten. In a another timeline were Zack seem to be still alive, Sephiroth appears to Cloud through visions and manipulates events, showing that his influence continues in different forms.
